Phygital Learn’s Lightbulb Stories© will deliver an application innovation which can be used by teachers, parents and learning coaches to teach students in grades K-3 how to read and to do so with fluency. For parents/caregivers and coaches of struggling early readers,Lightbulb Stories© will provide encouraging messaging to redirect students using curated feedback generated by our user-community of teachers.

The competitive advantage of our product is that it will detect students’ frustration before they give up on a reading activity by monitoring students’ facial expressions, word repetitions and extended pauses. What sets us apart from existing reading software is our focus on supporting students through reading challenges where they might otherwise disengage. By providing teacher- created feedback designed to encourage students to persevere, our software not only teaches students that they can read, but also builds the reading self-efficacy and self- regulation skills that are critical in the early stages of reading development. Our customized stories introduce social emotional learning skills to further foster students’ positive development.

By including teachers, learning coaches, and parents/caregivers in this process, we aim to surround students with a supportive team of adults to help turn on the light of learning that will last a lifetime.
